On Wake Up Winnipeg episode 102 we welcomed Victoria-based band Acres of Lions to The Aimless & Andy Sessions down at UMFM Studios.

We were lucky enough to have the the guys sit down and record three tracks with us only hours before they left for their set at The West End Cultural Centre here in Winnipeg on November the 19th.

Some of you who tuned in to Wake Up Winnipeg episode 102 would have heard the single "Best Day Ever" that we recorded while with the band. Though we expect to release the single soon in iTunes we thought we'd give our fans an extra bonus exclusively on YouTube.

This was the first time that we attempted to film a live video while recording a in-studio session and we couldn't be happier with the results. We fully expect to bring you more videos with each band that comes through UMFM Studios.

A big thanks goes out to Jeff, Tyson, Dan and Lewis from Acres of Lion for coming down and recording with us and for their help along the way. We hope to have them back to Winnipeg again soon to spend more time getting to know them. A lot of great fun and good memories came out of this session and we certainly had a enjoyable time recording them.

We discussed the bands cross country tour and elaborated on how the two met to form Data Romance.

The results were in just as the concert started. 9,500 fans voted to make the Kings Of Leon the temporary Kings of The MTS Centre...at least for two hours of the evening that is.

On October 4t, 2011 The Kings Of Leon rolled through Winnipeg for the first time as part of their Come Around Sundown tour. As I had never seen the Kings Of Leon before, I couldn't rock it like I had been here before.

The Kings Of Leon traveled with Saskatchewan based band The Sheep Dogs who kicked off the show promptly at 7:30.

The Sheep Dogs had a rustic and twangy sound to them. If there was ever a time I had wondered what music from Saskatchwan sounded like, The Sheepdogs would be exactly what I would have imagined the answer would have been.

It seemed that the band had somehow managed to harvest the feelings of prairie life and turn them into flourishing lyrics and tones.

The Sheepdogs In both their performance and their appearance were very reminiscent of early 1970's rockers. It almost felt as if we should have been at the Winnipeg Folk Festival or better yet the original Woodstock Festival.

The Kings Of Leon hit the stage an hour later and fans filled the floor and were treated to a grab bag of hits that showcased songs from their earlier days of Because The Time to their latest album Come Around Sundown.

Within minutes of walking on stage red and white lights flashed while smoke billowed from behind the drum set. The four band mates approached their instruments and began to play hard.

Giant projection screens sat to the left and right of the stage and streamed a video mix of the band as they played using a variety of post effects. The band seemed to favor the old 8'mm effect which allowed for a creative way to compliment the rockabilly sounds they delivered.

In person Anthony Caleb Followill sounds exactly as you would hear on the Kings Of Leon albums. Polished, focused, and determined to delivering his music as fans have come to know it. While watching him play guitar his talent and passion for music is apparent.

The only negative I would say about the Kings show was that there seemed to be a slight disconnect between the band and their fans. There was little to no crowd interaction coming from the stage aside from a quick back and forth conversation about the bands American origins. The energy levels that I had seen on earlier DVD tours didn't match those of the performance at the MTS Centre.

Though the band did deliver a great set-list, I had hoped for a higher energy performance.

While watching it was obvious that all of the band members were truly focused on delivery which could explain why they may not have been jumping around on stage or interacting with the crowd.

I am happy to say that the lack of energy didn't seem to make an impact on the overall production quality of the performance.

I was also surprised when the lead singer announced the band was experiencing technical difficulties towards the middle of their set. Though I personally didn't seem to notice anything out of the ordinary some fans seated in the higher levels claimed that the acoustics were slightly off.

Followill was told to stall for the crowd by means of casual conversation. He started by awkwardly saying "So...how you doing" which had fans cheering and then just like that, the performance continued.

While playing the song Closer from the 2008 album Only by the Night, Cameron Matthew Followill was seen playing his guitar with his teeth. The technique was certainly noteworthy and creative and made for a very cool effect.

Drummer/percussionist Ivan Nathan Followill dropped beats using a cross between drum sets and electronic drum machines that blended perfectly with the rest of the band.

Bassist Michael Jared Followill favored stage left for the majority of the performance and seemed content, cool and mellow as he was seen slapping the bass guitar.

With the Kings Of Leon providing a creative soundtrack to the evening fans could be seen closing their eyes and letting their imagination take them wherever they wanted to go.

The average decibel levels ranged between 90-95db's and did peak at slightly over 100db's as the band began to play Sex On Fire which seemed to get the most response from fans.

The band came back for their encore and finished up with three songs including the popular tune Use Somebody which was also welcomed with great audience response.

Overall I was pleased with the performance as were most of the fans I talked to post show. I appreciated that the band didn't focus exclusively on tracks from Come Around Sun Down.

Though more recent commercial success may have changed the way some view the band I still appreciate them for what I knew of them and didn't feel right judging them as anything other than musicians.

While on his first Western Canadian tour Colby from My Boy Rascal came into UMFM Studios to record a brand new single entitled If I Could Break These Walls which he had only recently preformed for the first time while on a stop in Brandon Manitoba.

On Wake Up Winnipeg episode 91 Colby released the single exclusively to our listeners. He also sat down for an interview with us in which he discussed the origins of the song and the inspiration behind it.

He explained that while writing the song he was clouded with negativity that he was dealing with and some mental blocks that he was trying to break out of. The song also deals with Colby's constant fear of dying.

On Wake Up Winnipeg episode 59 host Andru Valpy talked to Ashley Michelle Koley and
Phil Deschambault who make up the band Ash Koley.

In this interview, we learned how Ashley and Phil met in a unsuspecting location, and how such a random meeting progressed into something creatively inspirational.

As you will hear in the interview (available in iTunes now), one night of singing karaoke could get you a permanent gig in the music industry...because you never know who's listening.

During this interview, Ashley and Phil were kind enough to play an acoustic version of "Don't Let Your Feet Touch Ground" which was #5 on the Canadian charts at the time of our interview.

The duo was also set to release their new album Inventions on October 5th, 2010 with the help of their label, Sony Music Canada.

The time we spent together was great, and a reminder of what talent is grown here in our own back yard.

The History of The Aimless & Andy Show

The Aimless and Andy Show premiered on 101.5 UMFM in August of 2007 from the idea of Andru's Better than Bob Show which originally broadcasted in 2006.

After 2 years, and 112 episodes on UMFM as The Aimless & Andy Show After Hours, we made the jump to the internet and made a podcast entitled The Aimless & Andy VIP Podcast which is released on aimlessandandy.com and in the iTunes Music Store on occasion.

In 2009, Andru and Paul launched the weekly radio program Wake Up Winnipeg which airs twice weekly on 101.5 UMFM in Winnipeg and online at umfm.com. After keeping his title of King Of Co-Hosts for one year, Paul went on to produce his own weekly radio program on UMFM.

Paul currently hosts a music program entitled Drifter In The Dark which airs Saturday mornings from 12:00am - 2:00am CST. He is also continuing his production work with The Aimless & Andy Sessions.

In 2011, Wake Up Winnipeg Season 3 started and host Andru Valpy was joined by his new co-host Natty Somers and the duo continue to produce Wake Up Winnipeg weekly on UMFM 101.5. Wake Up Winnipeg will be celebrating the 2 year anniversary of their talk show in the fall of 2011.

After state of the art studio renovations were completed at UMFM Studios in August of 2011, we reconnected with our musical origins and once again started to record for The Aimless & Andy Sessions.

As we enter into our fourth year as a production company we will continue to grow in our associated talents while still providing support to fellow working artists and the international music community.

We remain thankful to our fans for their support in our projects, and will also continue to provide material that they can all enjoy.

Aimless & Andy Productions is home to a talented team of multimedia artists who are working together to practice the art of digital and social media, promotions, event planning/live productions, mixing & recording, radio productions and live broadcasting.

We are home to such radio shows as Wake Up Winnipeg on UMFM 101.5 FM and The Aimless & Andy Show both of which may be found in iTunes.

We are also home to The Aimless & Andy In Studio Sessions recorded from UMFM studios.

The Aimless & Andy In Studio Sessions originally started in September of 2009. Since then we have recorded and mixed tracks for local and internationally known artists from UMFM's live production room and freely distributed them by means of radio and social networks.

Our production team is headed by Andru Valpy and is composed of 6 international contributors, each of whom bring their own talents to the table.

We broadcast and record primarily out of UMFM studios at the University of Manitoba radio station, but have production offices in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, Tucson Arizona, and Springfield Massachusetts.

We are currently entering our 4th year of productions and are excited to be working on a number of projects.

It doesn't suck to be anyone who has seen Avenue Q.

Since it's debut in 2003, Avenue Q has brought laughter into the hearts of those who are brave enough to see the musical production. The production has won three tony awards, including the best musical award in 2003.

On Sunday May 22nd, 2011 I had the opportunity to review Avenue Q at New York City's famed New World Stages. Though I went into the production expecting some laughs, I had no idea as to what the level of comedy the of Avenue Q would bring to the stage. After watching the two hour production, I can tell you I was honestly blown away by how much I actually laughed.

Avenue Q is an essential play to see for any twenty-something who has wondered what exactly to do with their life. This holds especially true for any recent college graduate.

The show is based on a street called Avenue Q, a lower income street in the hustling bustling city of New York. The players, Princeton (A recent college graduate), Kate Monster (A kindergarten teaching assistant), Rod (A stiff banker) and his lazy room-mate Nicky, Brian (A recently un-employed comedian) and his Asian girlfriend Christmas Eve, Trekkie Monster (A perverted next-door neighbor) and childhood star Garry Coleman who is a superintendent in the building the characters live in.

Immediately upon the start of the show I felt as if I had walked into a continuation of a episode of Sesame Street, except this time all of the characters had grown up and been faced with real life adult situations.

The staff at Avenue Q have gone out of their way to crush any association with the Jim Henson production by including the following statement in their Playbill program:

"Avenue Q has not been authorized or approved in any manner by The Jim Henson Company or Sesame Workshop, which have no responsibility for its content".

Though the production itself bears a lot of similarities to Sesame Street (including very convincing puppets), the storyline would dare not be included in the original television production.

Think: X-Rated Sesame Street.

The opening act introduces us to Princeton who has just found his way into a apartment block on Avenue Q who finds himself asking the age old question "What do you do with a B.A. In English".

Like any other college graduate, Princeton is unsure of his place in the world, but remains committed to making a difference in the human race.

After taking a vacant suite in the apartment block Princeton is introduced to the rest of the cast and gets into a comedic debate over who's life sucks more. Ultimately, it was decided that all of the characters (and audiences) life sucked equally.

Moments later, Nicky attempts to discuss the subject of homosexuality with his anal-retentive room-mate Rod, who very defensively states he wants nothing to do with the conversation. Nicky politely attempts to call Rod out of the closet and encourages him to let loose. As his best friend and room-mate, Nicky explains that If Rod Was Gay, It would Be Okay and expresses his support on the subject. Rod once again attempts to change the subject and denies any of Nicky's allegations leading the audience to believe he is in denial.

The audience was brought back to Princeton, who after kicking himself earlier in the show is determined to find his Purpose in life. After finding a lucky penny from the year he was born, he is motivated to find his purpose and has a feeling "something is coming, something good".

Feeling better about himself, Princeton runs into girl next door Kate Monster who has developed a crush on the new kid on the block. While attempting to learn more about Kate Monster, Princeton starts to ask about Kate's family background:

He asks if she and Trekkie Monster were related, which causes Kate to take a step back and express her concern. She explains to Princeton that it was very presumptions of him to ask him such a sensitive question and also feels it was a bit racist.

Princeton attempts to defend himself and educates Kate that Everyone's a little bit racist.

To be quite honest, this was the song that originally sold me on attending Avenue Q out of the multitude of Broadway productions that New York City has to offer.

This single song is very comedic but also honest and blatantly true.

It reaches out to various races and educates it's audiences that deep-down every one really is racist, as the title suggests.

"Perhaps it's a fact we all should face.

Ethnic jokes, may be uncouth, but you laugh because they are based on truth. Don't take them as personal attacks, everyone enjoys them so relax.

If we all could just admit that we are racist a little bit, even though we all know that it's wrong, maybe it would help us get along."

The story continues with the characters finding themselves in a variety of real life situations including a near x-rated love scene (which had me in tears laughing) and a brief discussion on the true purpose of the Internet.

The story line is appropriate for those 16 and up and seems like it was designed to have the audience go back to a near child like state before judgements and stereotypes were known to them.

The production continues to be successful at the New World Stages with seat sales generally selling out on a daily basis.

Next time you are in New York City, I highly suggest you stop by Avenue Q as it is a Off-Broadway play that is not to be missed.

Aimless & Andy Review - FINGER ELEVEN - BURTON CUMMINGS THEATER- Winnipeg MB. Canada - 1/31/2011

Paralyzed. That's how some would describe Scott Anderson's stage presence on Monday evening as Finger Eleven played to their fans at Winnipeg's Burton Cummings Theater.

Though Scott may not have strayed to far from his microphone, he did make his fans move as Finger Eleven played singles from their new album Life Turns Electric.

Opening the show was Vancouver based band Elias.Worth noting, Elias has a very unique west-coast vibe to them which is reminiscent of 1960s surf tones with a combination of rustic Canadiana melodies. While promoting songs for their new album Lasting Distractions, lead singer Brian Healy thanked Winnipeg for their warm welcome.

Next up, top forty rockers The Envy who produced their upcoming debut album with the help of musical genius and Kiss front man Gene Simmons.

When Gene was talking with the Montreal Gazette about his label and the band, he said: “I really believe that the next generation of superstars is going to come out of Canada. You’ve got perhaps the biggest marketing entity in the world right next door. You can take advantage of America, but you’ve got to have the goods.”

Having launched Simmons Records, an Canadian exclusive label, The Envy have already proved their keep and are slated to release their first full length album in spring 2011.

Playing their first Manitoba show the band played a single called "Cold" which was ironically appropriate as temperatures outside the Burton Cummings Theater reached an average of minus 25 degrees. While preforming their last song, the bands bassist was seen throwing his guitar up with both hands symbolizing the end of the set. Thankfully, he caught it.

With the heat cranked up, and the decibels reaching 100db, fans were finally ready to welcome Finger Eleven to the stage.

One by one band members walked on stage, picking up their instruments and building their fans up for a dark and energizing hour and a half show.

Scott Anderson seemed energized and focused as he stood in front of his microphone, delivering melodies and lyrics from the new album, while still playing favorites such as "One Thing" and "Good Times".

Though he may not have moved much from his front-and-centre position, the levels of concentration and determination in delivery certainly added a high quality sound. With a genuine smile, and a in time foot tap, it was apparent that Finger Eleven was still playing for passion.

Arguably, guitarist James Black seemed to be having the most fun on stage as he hopped and jumped around stage right while bobbing his Mohawk in time with the beat. Think funky chicken walk, with a guitar around your neck. (Said nicely). It added to a quality performance.

While opening for the song "One Thing", Black teased the audience with the introduction to "Stairway to Heaven before transitioning into the billboard charting single.

Guitarist Rick Jackett was also seen moving his head while strumming his guitar though his face seemed hidden in his shoulder length hair. It looked almost as if Jackett was honoring the hair bands of the 80's while preforming his rock riffs.

Towards the end of the show, Fans heard the newest single "Living In A Dream" which has taken to local charts after its release in October of 2010.

After 17 songs Finger Eleven bid ado to their fans and humbly walked off stage.

Not surprising, the band did come back for a two song encore and end with their song "Paralyzer" to which fans were seen dancing and singing in all three levels of the theater.

Finger Eleven did not let their fame get the best of them when a young girl took to the stage during the bands final bow, and proceed to hug Scott Anderson and Drummer Rich Beddoe who in turn handed her a pair of drum sticks. It was a moment that will surely be remembered.

Overall, Finger Eleven impressed us as we left into the night and recalled our favorite moments from the performance noting that the band has not yet lost their spark.

Local show host and producer Andru Valpy announced today that with the start of its third season, Wake Up Winnipeg would move to become its own entity and differentiate itself from The Aimless & Andy Show.

"With 2 successful seasons of Wake Up Winnipeg behind us, we feel it important to seperate ourselves from The Aimless & Andy Show to allow for proper growth and devlopment of our show" - States producer and host Andru Valpy.

"Though Wake Up Winnipeg will continue to be a division of Aimless & Andy Productions, our articles, pictures and stories will now be moved to their own web-pages in an effort to create and grow it's own brand awareness".

With this announcement, Wake Up Winnipeg re-designed it's web-page found at http://wakeupwinnipeg.com/ and has started to re-locate archived entries from the Aimless & Andy blog to a separate blog located at http://wakeupwinnipeg.blogspot.com/.

Wake Up Winnipeg also launched it's own Facebook Fanpage to encourage growth and presence in the online community.

Wake Up Winnipeg kicked off Season 3 in its new time slot on UMFM on Wednesday January 12th 2011 at 6:00pm on 101.5 FM and will continue to be repeated at 6:30 AM on Wednesday mornings. It was during this episode that a new co-host named Natty Somers will join the weekly news program.

Well here we are at the end of another year and radio stations and magazines are counting down the best songs of the year in reflection.

Things are no different here at The Aimless & Andy Show as 2010 has been a very big year for all of us on the team.

From January 1st 2010 we have posted a total of 82 podcasts totaling 3 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes and 18 seconds worth of air-play with 23,567 downloads.

We have photographed over 40 local events, conducted over 50 interviews, written 20 plus cultural reviews, posted 164 articles on our blog and had 34 episodes of our local talk program entitled Wake Up Winnipeg.

We took our show on the road and visited 4 cities both within Canada and the United States in an effort to promote our show for a total of 7,565 KM's (4,700 miles) traveled.

We hosted not one, but 2 benefit shows with donations totaling over $1,000 that went back into the community we live in.

And as if that weren't enough, 248,699 people have visited our website from January 1st 2010 until December 28th, beating out last years total of 119,340.

Needless to say, it has been a busy year for all of us involved and we are anxiously awaiting the year 2011 to see what fun and excitement we can deliver for you.

Having said all that, we wanted to take a moment to reflect this years "Top 70" songs of the VIP Podcasts with you our listeners and we are doing so in two specially produced podcasts which are now available for download in iTunes.

I admit, not "all" of these songs are from the year 2010 but I allowed some favorites from 2009 into our chart due to their success and chart growth in 2010.

Now of course there just are not enough hours available on our server to play EVERY song that we wanted to include in this year end review, therefore making it near impossible to showcase all of the bands and tracks that we had the opportunity to learn about this year.

However, as the executive producer of The VIP Podcasts, I have gone back through all of our play-lists generated and selected the songs that were featured frequently on our charts, and threw in some singles that we all enjoyed in the year 2010. Included in this count-down are the songs that were most requested from our fans via e-mail, and live performances at the various night clubs that I have dee-jayed at over the year.

I've also included a few samples of interviews we had conducted throughout 2010 to reflect back on just some of our year end memories.

With written text being what it is it's certainly easy to skim through a chart and find out how a song placed, so to avoid that we are actually making the charts available in iTunes immediately in an effort to encourage you to subscribe and listen to the music FIRST before cheating and looking at the charts.

From today until a later determined date the Podcasts will be posted and distributed into two parts in the iTunes store.

They have been divided into two parts from #70 - 42 and then from #41-2.

As you will hear on the podcasts, each song has been placed into a category, and then charted based on that category starting from top to bottom.

Though numbers say a lot about a songs performance, and the opinion of the program director who labels them, I can personally assure you that each of these songs are considered favorites and have been included into this podcast as stand outs for the year 2010.

The total run time for both episodes of this special edition podcast run for 4 hours and 46 minutes but have been split into two hour commercial free episodes.

Here we are, the last day of 2010.

People around the world are starting to prepare for a night of celebration, remembrance and reflection, and preparation for a new and exciting year.

The same can be said about all of us here on the Aimless & Andy Team as we are preparing for 2011 and for the opportunities the new year will bring for us.

As mentioned in my previous entry, we wanted to take the time to reflect on 2010 and the songs that made up a great majority of our podcasts and the memories that came with them.

If you haven't listened yet, there is still time to download these two part podcasts now in iTunes so you can share in our memories and reflections and celebrate in our success and excitement for the year of 2010.

Before you scroll any further, I would like to remind you that though there are 70 songs that we charted for the year, there are a lot more that should of course be on here.

The following songs were picked based on requests (both in writing and in person at various live events), air play on the podcasts, and songs that meant something to all of us on the team.

As you will see below, each song has been placed in to a category and then numbered starting at number 70 and counting down to the number 1 song. The lower in number, the higher the performance.

Though numbers say a lot about a songs performance, and the opinion of the program director who labels them, I can personally assure you that each of these songs are considered favorites and have been included into this podcast as stand outs for the year 2010.

For the second time in 2010 Alexisonfire rolled through Winnipeg as part of their headlining 2010 tour.

Upon taking my place in the self-made photo pit inside the Burton Cummings Theater, I found myself wondering what surprises Alexisonfire would bring with them to Winnipeg after having visited in March of this year with friends Billy Talent?

The answer to my question came very quickly.

A new sound.

Dog's blood is the latest EP in the bands quickly growing discography following last years 2nd place Canadian chart topping album Old Crows/Young Cardinals.

And it seemed to be the talk of fans within the theater.

A few strums into the title track it was instantly apparent that Alexisonfire still has a lot of creative fuel left in their gas tanks and when preformed in front of their Winnipeg fans, the theater suddenly felt like it could explode at any moment.

When listening to tracks from Dog's Blood, any AOF fan will find the steeple trademarks that the band has become famous for; hard-core guitar licks, fast passed bass drum action, and lead screamer George Pettit's now famous voice.

But when reviewing the Dog's Blood ep in depth, it is apparent that Alexisonfire has added a touch more "edge" in their sound, and can be differentiated from last years Old Crow's/Young Cardinals album quite easily.

Long instrumental breaks float almost seamlessly into each-other on this experimental 24 minute EP, and is a refreshing breakaway from your main-stream AOF play-list.

I would dare say, it's a dark EP.

It's interesting to note that though the EP may seem harder at first listen, there are still brief moments where Dallas Greens soft soothing voice can be heard blending in with the screaming guitar and bass riffs.

In a recent interview with Spinner Magazine, guitarist Dallas Green told Spinner that "A really crazy riff" is what started the leggings of Dogs Blood.

"[The riff] turned into a song, which probably would have never made it onto an album because it's a bit too crazy. Then George came up with 'Dog's Blood' so we decided to name the EP that," - Dallas Green - (via Spinner Magazine.)

I am impressed to see that even after a successful 9 year career, Alexisonfire was not afraid to think and step outside of the box to create new material for their fan base.

AOF managed to surprise fans with a mix of tracks from their 2009 full length album while digging back into their archives and playing a track from their 2006 album Crisis.

Though some fans were heard questioning the choice of venue for such a hard core show, Canadian tour history has proven to me that Burton Cummings Theater is the last step before a bigger headlining venue.

Take former Alexisonfire tour mates Billy Talent for example; One of their last stops in Winnipeg before the MTS Centre was The Burton Cummings Theater to support Billy Talent II.

At the rate Alexisonfire is putting out music, it shouldn't too much longer before fans are bobbing their heads at the acoustically famed MTS Center.

I certainly can't wait to be there.

Hey fans,

Well, we're back and ready to attack as we bring you one of our first podcasts in what seems like a long time.

Now that our benefit show is over things are starting to get back on track here at Aimless & Andy Studios, but before we said goodbye to our benefit show completely we wanted to share with those of you that couldn't be there a three part series entitled

Dear Friends and Fans,

It has been a little over a month since my last letter to you, and as you may have seen above. . . things are coming along quite quickly for "A Night With Aimless & Andy", our 3 year anniversary benefit show.

We are happy to announce that tickets are now on sale for $5.00 at Shannon's Irish Pub, located at 175 Carlton Street here in Winnipeg.

Starting the week of the 18th, you will also have your chance at winning a pair of tickets on Curve 94.3 FM here in Winnipeg. Your chance to win will be in the evenings with our friend Adam Taylor.

100% of the proceeds from this event will be going to The Rainbow Society and The Children's Hospital, both local charities our team members feel strongly about.

Earlier this month, I had announced the bands had been selected for the 3 year anniversary celebration of The Aimless & Andy Show.

Band 1 is Callida, a brand new band based here in Winnipeg.

As a producer I have always done my best to develop and promote local talent and share it with the world. On October 29th, our team will be sharing in Callida's excitment as we premier them with thier debut show.

When I approached Callida about playing our benefit show in August of this year, I could tell they were excited, in fact their lead singer told me they felt honored to play our show.

Though they were set to work on their first EP, the band since decided to take the time needed for recording and put it towards rehearsal for this debut.

I'm excited to see what they bring to the stage!

Our second band THE NOBLE THIEFS, took me by surprise the first time I heard them. It seems like it is hard to find that "classic" 1950's-esk sound these days, but these guys have recreated that talent so perfectly that we had to bring them on board for this event.

You may have seen these cat's around town when they were known as THIEFS, but since the addition of new members and the creation of new songs, they rebranded themselves as Noble, a title we feel they are worthy of.

Within the next week, both bands and I will be working to create a special pre-event podcast and share with you a little more about each band. Please be sure to SUBSCRIBE IN iTUNES to automatically receive this podcast when it is available.

So what of this "mysterious act" that you keep reading about you ask?
Well, some things are better left as a surprise...

Though we promise that we won't hold this surprise in much longer. What I can tell you, is that our announcement will come soon enough..but by then our tickets might just be sold out.

Hey fans and friends!

Welcome back to School season. . . or for some of you. . . welcome back to full time work loads!

With labor day now weekend now over, things are getting back to full swing around schools, universities, offices and. . . The Aimless & Andy Show.

Plans are currently underway for "A Night with Aimless & Andy" and as stated in the previous Aimless & Andy post, we will be scaling back a bit on the podcast while we plan for a night that is sure to entertain those who come out.

But, before we cut back. . . we felt it important to give you another Podcast to hold you over while we plan it all out.

On this podcast, I tried my best to feature tracks everyone on our team is listening to, while still paying attention to the requests of you, our fans.

You'll notice we start off with a lot of rock, hop over to the club scene, touch base with our southern roots, and wrap it all off with the stuff our parents listened to.

As always, there is probably something for everybody here in this two and a half hour long commercial free podcast!

A LETTER FROM EDITOR IN CHIEF ANDRU VALPY:

Dear Friends and Fans,

In 2007, Paul and I made our way down to UMFM Studios for the first episode of "The Aimless & Andy Show", replacing my old radio show entitled "The Better Than Bob Show".

For those of you who have been loyal listeners, you'll remember our firt show aired bright and early on a Tuesday morning, just before "Let's Get Baked With Matt And Dave" on CJUM 101.5 FM.

Our show was "doomed" from the begining, as our big premier never happened.

One week later, we made our official permier as a radio duo and jokingly said we had no idea how long this project would last. In fact, if you review our "second" episode, you'll see exactly what we are talking about. . .

On June 14th of 2008, we took our show to a new time-slot and entitled it "The Aimless & Andy Show - After Hours" which aired Friday Nights at midnight (technically saturday morning...) on CJUM 101.5.

It was around that time when we started to evlolve and devlop our reputation for fun, music, and our sarcastic sense of humor. . . it was also then that our doomed show took a positive spin.

In December of 2009, The Aimless & Andy Show had grown to levels we never expected with the affiliations we had built both locally and nationally. Due to the success, reputuation, and partnerships Paul and I had built, we decided to take our show to the World Wide Web, and watch our radio show evolve. . . And that it has.

Since January of 2010, I have indipendantly posted over 73 items in our iTunes Podcast Library, and have had the opportunity to explore a ton of new music, and had the privilage to meet some amazing artists, some of whom I've listened to since youth.

Our growth and evolution could not happen without the help of our affiliates, our team members, our families, our advisors, our community and country, and most importantly YOU, our fans. For that, the team and I are extreamly thankful, and appreciative.

As many of you know, each year our team assembles to celebrate our anniversary and success with a night of fun and celebration.

We do this not only to say "thank you" for the support, but also as a way to give back to the community by way of donation.

This year is no exception. . .

With the help of The Aimless & Andy Team and Winnipeg's own "Shannon's Irish Pub" we are gearing up up to create an event that will top last years sell out at The Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club.

Though details are still being finalized, I am now personally inviting you to save FRIDAY OCTOBER 29TH 2010 for "A Night With Aimless & Andy".

I can personally assure you that this night out is not to be missed.

All of those involved in the planning stages are really excited at the details that will be announced, and cannot wait for this night to arrive!

In the upcoming weeks, our VIP Podcast will be scaled back to allow for proper planning, though Wake Up Winnipeg and Drifter In The Dark will still air weekly on UMFM.

During this time, I ask for your patience and understanding for the delay in podcasting and assure you we will post them when time permits.

As additional details are confirmed; Our webpage, our twitter, our faceboook fanpage, and our blog will be updated to ensure you are provided the most accurate information.

Also be sure to keep your eyes open for posters, and ears open for announcements as they pop up.

Oh boy, oh boy. Another podcast! Have you missed us!? Well....you shouldn't have?! It's only been 9 days since our last podcast, and in those 9 days, we've had a lot of fun stuff coming through our doors!

What To Do If Your Internet Goes Down

I found this page last year after experiencing a very long internet disruption. Luckily I had my trusty PDA device to browse as a back up (as a nerd who depends on the Internet, I always have a back up).

I had to laugh because it was actually pretty funny.

Since my last visit, the hosting page has increased their forms of advertising and annoying pop-ups and added WAV files that load every 5 seconds to make you think Windows is warning you. I wouldn't advise going to the site now, so to help I have copied the text and pasted it below. If you really want to risk loading the page (and potentially getting spyware/riskware) you can visit it by clicking here but again, I wouldn't advise it.

Besides, I've taken the best part and put it here without the annoying popups!

For those of you dependent on the internet, I provide you the emergency procedures to take in the event of an Internet Outage.

No one knows when the Internet will fail. It could happen at any time, leaving you bereft of your e-mail, your sports scores, and your blogs. Therefore, it's important that you and your family have a contingency plan for just such an emergency. If your connection to Cyberspace were to ever get severed, you should at least be prepared. We have included a few key points that should assist you if that were to happen.

1. Panic!
An excited, agitated state will give you that heightened sense of awareness and will increase your thought processes allowing you to come up with rational solutions. Panic is just nature's way of putting your body into over-drive. It's a defense mechanism that gives you an edge when dealing with potentially harmful situations, such as a severed arm or the loss of your Internet.

2. Find A Telephone
Do you have access to a telephone line? Early computers connected to the Internet using a dial-up device along with a hardware device known as a “modem” Since this technology is obsolete, it will be of no use to you.
Instead, use your telephone to call your friends to see if their connection is also down, as you will have lost the ability to send an email or an instant message. You can also use a telephone to call 911, an emergency service that will first tell you to calm down, and then will send out specially-trained technicians to find the source of the Internet's failure.

3. Use Your Back-Up Computer
It's always good to have an emergency laptop handy, in case you need to harry over to a buddy's place where the Net is still up. If there is still no Internet at that location, at the very least you could connect to a small network or LAN (Less-than Adequate Network). Laptops can also be placed on tables at coffee-shops, while you sit around with a latte, nervously waiting for your connection to be restored.

4. Install A Game
In emergency situations, installing a single-player computer game can occupy your down-time. While it won't replace the adrenaline rush of intense networked multiplayer action provided by the Internet, a quick game of ”Sim City”or “Flight Simulator” may distract you long enough for your connection to return.

5. Perform Routine Maintenance
While programs such as Norton Antivirus have removed most of the tedium of computer system maintenance, nothing could help pass the time faster than cleaning out your hard drive, emptying your cache, or organizing your celebrity fake porn collection. Take the time to stare at your screen while you perform a defragmentation. The time will literally fly while you barely notice your separation from the Internet.

6. Turn On A Television Or Radio
Televisions, strange boxes that sit in your parents' living rooms, were once used to provide entertainment, long before DVDs and Playstations were invented. Televisions have the capability of broadcasting streaming information similar to the content on multimedia websites. With a “remote control” a wireless device that is like a small one-handed keyboard, you may be able to surf a limited number of “Channels” while you deal with the loss of your connection. Unfortunately, television is only a one-way media.

In ancient times, radios were also used to entertain. A radio allowed you to listen to news, sports, and music, much the same way that you listen to live streaming audio on a Shoutcast server. Like the television, a radio will only have a limited selection of listening stations, and no video. Hopefully your separation from the Internet will be brief.

7. Read
People in pre-Internet times used to read “books” and “magazines” written materials once created in printable format to pass the time. Some e-books are still available on paper, and may offer a short-term solution until your power is back and your broadband is restored. If reading is not an option, as a last resort, you may wish to try doing “chores,” or try your hand at cooking.
While these activities cannot replace the Internet, they may be able to make the down-time a little more tolerable.

8. Play cards
When was the last time you've played solitaire with a real deck of cards? Take the time to learn how to set up and enjoy the game. If your internet will be down for a while invite some friends over for a game of poker. When the Internet is back you can play poker online and then your friends can go home and continue the game form there or you may enjoy the company so much that a weekly game of cards won’t seem like such a bad idea.

9. Go Outside
The idea of leaving your workstation may seem a little extreme, but you can perform errands that you normally get parents or spouses to do: grocery shopping, drycleaning, etc. Leaving your dorm room, basement, or above-garage apartment suite, may be risky, but again, the time may afford an effective distraction from your Internet woes. NOTE: Be careful to avoid the sun, because your pasty white skin will not be used to the exposure.

10. Spend Time With Your Spouse
Communicating with your wife or girlfriend may seem like a radical suggestion, but the time investment may offer long-term rewards. Spending any amount of time talking about your “relationship” may free up more Internet time for you later on, when your ADSL or Cable link to the World Wide Web has been restored. WARNING: These will probably be the longest hours of your life.

11. Use Your Emergency AOL Disk
If you find that your connection to the Internet is going to be longer than you can possibly stand, as a last resort, pull out an emergency AOL CD, the one with 910 free hours of connection to the AOL service. Take the CD in one hand...and slash it across your wrist! Suicide will probably be a better alternative than connecting to that service.

Hopefully some of these Internet alternatives will be able to assist you during an offline crisis. Emergency radio broadcasts will likely advise you of the state of the Internet and be able to predict when your bandwidth will be restored, but remember to have an emergency plan in case your digital detachment is longer than you expect.

Always be prepared! In the off chance that you need to call your Internet Service Provider (Or ISP) be sure to listen to all menu's and prompts as most will indicate if there is a service impacting issue!

Ahh yes, Summer loving, happened so fast!

...which is why we have been away so long! We're loving Summer! The warm weather is in full effect here in our fair city and with that comes this podcast!

In this podcast, I tried to focus on songs that can be blasted with the tops and windows down, the subwoofers turned up, and also attempted to capture the 'heat' that summer brings.

It starts out with songs from summers past, and those of you that are close to The Aimless & Andy Team should remember them. If not, I introduce to you these classics from the late nineties and early thousands.

I dedicated this weeks "rock block" to the Power 97 Rock On The Range concert that is happening at Canadinns Stadium this Saturday. The full line up, may be found BY CLICKING HERE.

Later in the podcast, I spiced it up with some new and favorite summer tracks that were meant to entice your ears, and spice up your summer nights. Whether you're at a house party, or on a Sunday Night cruise, these tracks will have your bass bumping, and your toes thumping.

As per usual, I rounded out the Podcast with the tracks our parents listened too, including a selection from Mr. Niel Young who was just recently in Winnipeg for not one, but TWO sold out nights. Though I personally did not get to hear his voice fill our concert halls, I did have friends who saw his performance and said it was fantastic.

Well well well,

Here we are for yet another week of The Aimless & Andy VIP Podcast. I bet you all didn't think you would hear from us again after the last two weeks of madness.

Well, rest assured no matter what we are still here and I am still committed to bringing you all music to fill your ears, hearts and minds.

This week, as per usual, I went all over the place with the selections on our Podcast....However, there is certainly a nice flow to the podcast, and it gives you the listener a chance to explore a little bit of everything.

Yes, there is something in here for everyone. . . Well except hard core country fans. Sorry! We ran out of time this week for the country music.

What would you do if your next-door neighbor were Leonard Cohen?

Add to the fact that you are a poet and an aspiring musician, and you have dreamed of working with such a talented individual for as long as you have known.

That question can only be answered by Canadian artist NEeMA, who has just released her self-titled album on Sony Records.

On Tuesday July 6th, 2010 I had the chance to pop into Winnipeg’s West End Cultural Centre to visit and explore NEeMA.

Upon meeting NEeMA I was greeted with a wide smile, and a positive aura.

NEeMA and I had the opportunity to reflect on her musical career, her journeys in life, and her work with Leonard.

It was during this interview (of which you will hear on this weeks episode of “Wake Up Winnipeg” and on The Aimless & Andy VIP Podcast) that NEeMA admitted that being referred to as a musician was still a new concept to her, seeing as she considered herself a poet for most of her life.

NEeMA’s musical career started with poems that she had written throughout her life and in her travels across Canada and at times the world.

It wasn’t until her move to Montreal Quebec that NEeMA started to take her poems to song form.

Though she had started to learn the guitar by herself, NEeMA eventually crossed paths with internationally known artist Leonard Cohen who lived in the same neighborhood as NEeMA.

What transpired from there is reflected on NEeMA’s new album, which I had the chance to hear for myself during the Tuesday night showing.

Upon singing her first whispered Lyrics, I could instantly hear Leonard’s influence on NEeMA.
Though NEeMA was soft spoken and carried a and mysterious tone, the messages and lyrics she shares are strong and powerful.

Like many artists, NEeMA’s lyrics are based on real life experiences and as she admitted were written at important moments in her life.

Her lyrics are certainly relatable, specifically her track “Bone To Pick With Time” in which NEeMA questions the circle of life, and softly expresses that life is too short.

At times during NEeMA’s performance, audience members could be seen drying their eyes of tears after listening to the powerful words of this French Canadian artist.

NEeMA wrapped up the night with a beautiful lullaby simply entitled “Elsa’s Lullaby”.

After the show, NEeMA and I had a chance to reflect on the evening where I offered her my honest opinion and suggested she continue to pursuit her musical career.

I informed her that her performance was refreshing, moving and inspiring and my guest and I mentioned that we would continue to listen to NEeMA's journeys on future albums, for which she was grateful.

If you are someone who appreciates women and songs, and you appreciate Leonard Cohens work, then I personally recommend that you escape reality and explore NEeMA's self tiled album or hear her sacred chords yourself the next time she is in your home-town.

So sorry that we've been MIA for the last few weeks, but as we mentioned in our blog we've been crazy busy volunteering at the 2010 TD Jazz Winnipeg Festival.

Luckily we were able to sneak in a podcast before we head off to do it all over again at the 2010 Winnipeg Folk Festival!

This week, inspired by some of the concerts I was invovled in I decided to spin a complete set for you, minus audience participation.

You'll hear a lot of 80's influence in this weeks mix, and we certainly included a few of the bands that we had the opportunity to check out.

We'll be back next week after the Winnipeg Folk Festival, but in the mean time as Sugar & Gold said on Tuesday Night "Work Out Work out!"

It's finally here! The 2010 TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival kicks off Friday night with a full-slate of concerts in several downtown venues!

While you're out seeing shows don't forget to stop in at our free concerts taking place on the brand new stage at Old Market Square.

And of course, let's not forget about tonight's Festival preview concert featuring the one and only Sonny Rollins! If you don't have tickets, fear not - you'll still be able to buy tickets at the door.

THEATRE SERIES AT PANTAGES PLAYHOUSE THEATRE

This year's Theatre Series has something for everyone. Whether you're a fan of classic or modern jazz, big bands or piano duos, rap or scat, you can enjoy the best of the best this week.

On Saturday evening, jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove brings his fantastic quintet to the main stage. Young lion Christian Scott opens the night with his own quartet.

One of the sleeper hits of this year's festival has turned out to be Martha Wainwright tribute to Edith Piaf on Sunday, June 27. Perhaps it has to do with last week's release of her brand-new CD, Sans Fusils, Ni Souliers, à Paris. Whatever it is, tickets have flying out the door for this show the last few says. Opening the show are two of our favourites, José James and Jef Neve, in town to promote their new Impulse! release, For All We Know.

On Monday, June 28, legendary hip hop group
The Roots come to town while on a one week hiatus from their duties as the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. This show has spun Winnipeg into a frenzy since we announced in April. As a result, this show is SOLD OUT.

On June 30, acclaimed American trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard joins the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra for "Jazz in Film" -- a celebration of film scores from the 1950s to the present including Blanchard's own work as a film composer.

Finally, on July 4, the Theatre Series wraps up with a performance by rising Canadian star Nikki Yanofsky, hot on the heels of her self-titled debut recording and her Vancouver Olympics appearances.

THEATRE SERIES
AT THE WEST END CULTURAL CENTRE

A unique double-bill kicks off the series on Friday night featuring New York latin soul vocalist/guitarist Raul Midón and blues singer Toshi Reagon. This is another sleeper hit, with ticket-buyer lighting up the festival office switchboard.

Critically-acclaimed pianist Bill Charlap is joined by his wife (and Canadian ex-pat) Renee Rosnes for an intimate duo piano concert at the WECC on June 28. Charlap and Rosnes just released a terrific new album for Blue Note Records called Double Portrait.

On July 1, Montreal diva Ranee Lee performs at the WECC with her quintet. Lee is still enjoying the afterglow of winning a Juno Award earlier this year for her record, Ranee Lee Lives Upstairs.

CLUB SERIES

The Club Series features an amazing and diverse line-up of local and visiting artists in downtown venues including the Rachel Browne Theatre, Aqua Books, The Pyramid Cabaret, Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club, King's Head Pub, and Le Garage Café.

The Rachel Browne Theatre and Aqua Books feature late night jazz sets by the likes of saxophonist André Leroux (Friday) young trumpeter Christian Scott and vocalist Jeanne Rochette (Saturday) José James and Jef Neve, and Brooklyn's Marco Benevento Trio (Sunday), Terry Clarke Trio (Wednesday) and scores of Winnipeg's top jazz talent.

At The Pyramid Cabaret, some of today's hippest young acts are set to perform, including hip hop heavyweights Freeway and Jake One (Friday), rap troubadour and CBC Radio 2 host Buck 65 (Saturday), Canadian dance rock darlings Think About Life and electro reggae duo Bonjay (Sunday) indie rock mainstays Deerhoof (Monday) San Francisco's Sugar and Gold (Tuesday) Daptone Records' Afrobeat collective The Budos Band (Wednesday) and Kid Koala Presents The Slew Live (Thursday) featuring members of Australia's Wolfmother.

The festival will also host outstanding blues and roots acts live at The King's Head Pub and Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club. The line-up includes Chicago blues champions Lil' Ed and The Blues Imperials (Friday and Saturday) Wichita blues rock trio Moreland and Arbuckle (Sunday and Monday) Cedric Burnside and Lightnin' Malcolm (Tuesday and Wednesday) Swing blues sensation Little Miss Higgins (Friday) and Sue Foley and Peter Karp (Saturday and Sunday) with their new project, He Said-She Said.

FREE CONCERTS

Building on a commitment to present free programming, the festival features a new Free Concert Series in Old Market Square.

In addition to the very popular lunch hour concerts, the series features free concerts during the opening weekend between 7 pm and 10 pm. Performers at the Free Concert Series include André Leroux, Jeanne Rochette, Toronto's Amanda Martinez and much more.

The TD Jazz Labs, are a series of free workshops led by festival artists covering a wide range of musical perspectives. Starting with a session led by blues artists Sue Foley and Peter Karp, the series continues Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes, drummer Terry Clarke, and singer Ranee Lee. (Please note: due to a travel scheduling, Marco Benevento's Jazz Lab has been cancelled)

The festival culminates with the hugely popular Wrap-up Weekend in Old Market Square on a brand new stage. Thousands of music fans are expected in The Exchange District July 2-4 for three days of FREE music. Performers for the weekend include Amanda Martinez, Opensouls, Papa Mambo, and Moses Mayes.

Starting June 22nd, the FUEL team of Energy and Oil Spill Cleanup Experts will Launch a National Dialogue on Solutions to Span from Los Angeles to New Orleans to Canada

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 21, 2010) – To coincide with the two month anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion that triggered the worst environmental disaster in American history and the June 22nd release on DVD of the Sundance Award winning documentary, FUEL, New Orleans native, filmmaker and alternative fuels activist, Josh Tickell will be kicking off a week long series of events.

These events will engage politicians, scientists, oil spill experts and activists such as Peter Fonda, Amy Smart and Mariel Hemingway in developing solutions to the BP Oil Spill and calling for a cohesive, actionable national alternative fuel strategy.

Tickell grew up near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in an area known as ‘cancer alley’ for having the highest cancer incidence in the United States because of oil processing. In fact FUEL is the only film that investigates the history and magnitude of the oil industry in Louisiana. The film is also prescient: it features a former Chevron/Texaco oil man talking about the hazards of deep water drilling in the Gulf.

Tickell, producer Rebecca Harrell Tickell and a team of established environmentalists will be organizing a series of high-profile events that span from Los Angeles to Canada to New Orleans and will include:

Tuesday, June 22nd (Los Angeles):

A press conference at Los Angeles City Hall starts at 1:00 pm with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to kick off the Mayor’s 30/10 alternative fuel program and ‘To Get LA Off Oil.” Tickell will make closing comments and a Green Car Rally will follow.

The Green Car Rally culminates at Santa Monica City College where FUEL will screen for an audience of green activists. There will be a panel discussion following the screening. (Theatre Arts Main Stage)

The FUEL bus, a mobile museum of alternative fuel that runs on bio-diesel, will be filled with young activists and depart Los Angeles for New Orleans.
Saturday, June 26th (Los Angeles):

Pacifica radio’s KPFK will screen FUEL starting at 7:30 pm with a discussion to follow with Tickell and David Freeman, "The Green Cowboy," an energy guru and author at the Warner Grand in San Pedro, CA. ($15 at door, check www.kpfk.org for more details.)
Monday, June 28th (New Orleans):

A special screening of FUEL in New Orleans for the first time at the historic Canal Street Theatre starting at 7:00 pm, followed by a Q&A with Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell.
Tuesday, June 29th (New Orleans):

A strategic oil spill solution session hosted by celebrities and politicians that will outline likely scenarios, current conditions, and potential solutions.

The session will be lead by Synecticsworld, an international consortium of think tank specialists. Interested parties must RSVP to thinktank@thefuelfilm.com.

A peaceful march in favor of alternative energy will start at the Café Du Monde at 4:00pm and circuit Jackson Square, culminating 5:00 pm in the Human Oil Spill Aerial Art Project directed by artist John Quigley.

MOKSHA YOGA WINNIPEG LAUNCHES YOGA GRANT PROGRAM FOR LOCAL WINNIPEG SCHOOLS

Moksha Yoga Winnipeg School’s Foundation aims to fundraise Enough to Implement Yoga Programs in 10 Schools in its First Year

June 15, 2010 - (Winnipeg MB) - Always challenging the pillars of Moksha to their fullest, MYW has decided to take their commitment to Accessibility and Community Building to the next level. MYW has created a Grant Program called the Moksha Yoga Winnipeg School’s Foundation to implement the positive benefits of yoga to youth in local Winnipeg Schools.

“The idea came to us when we were approached by one of our students, a teacher at an inner city arts school that received a grant from the government to implement a yoga program,” says MYW owner Ryann Doucette. “It hit us like a ton of bricks, why can’t we do this for more schools in need of programs like this. We want to share the amazing benefits of yoga with both teachers and students through-out the program to make it both physically and financially accessible.”

“Over the 2009-2010 school year, my grade one and two students had the opportunity to participate in weekly yoga sessions with a Moksha instructor.

As an inner city school, we are always looking for unique ways to engage children and motivate them to arrive at school on-time every day, ready to learn. Yoga achieved this for us.

Not only did the children learn the physical poses, but they learned to appreciate the peaceful serene feeling yoga created in their mind and body,” admits teacher from local school. “The children took ownership of their yoga practice by teaching their families and friends and practicing during recess and discovery time.

On the days yoga took place I noticed increased attendance and more focussed learners.

Many children use the breathing techniques and poses as strategies to refocus their attention and concentrate in the classroom. The yoga program in our classroom was far more successful than I anticipated and I hope to continue working with Moksha Yoga Winnipeg in the next school year!”

Schools around Winnipeg and the surrounding area interested in the program will be asked to fill out an application form as to why their school might benefit from a yoga program. Applications will be picked in the order of greatest need. Anyone is eligible, MYW can cater programs to primary, elementary and high school aged students. Once a group is accepted to the program MYW will provide mats for the school and a block of 10 scheduled yoga sessions per group.

MYW will honour the Moksha Yoga Winnipeg School’s Foundation Inc. as their Karma Charity over the summer in order to raise funds to meet their goals of implementing 10 programs in their first year with a fundraising goal of $9000 with every dollar raised going directly to the charity. MYW holds 5 Karma classes each week to raise money to give back to the community and has raised over $100,000 in the past 3 years for local and global charities combined.

As well, this year’s August 7th event, Yoga In The Park (YIP 2010) will be geared towards maximizing attendance and donations in support of the Foundation as well as making it an amazing fun filled family event at the Lyric Theatre in Assiniboine Park. Manitoba’s biggest Yoga class ever, last year reaching 500 people practicing yoga and breathing together to raise enough money to send Canadian students to build a school house in India.

Moksha Yoga Winnipeg offers over 100 classes weekly between both the Donald and Waverley studio locations and offers a $40 unlimited intro month for new students to the studio.

THE WINNIPEG FOLK FESTIVAL WELCOMES HOME CRASH TEST DUMMIES
Members of the Original Line Up to make Winnipeg-only Appearance

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada – The Crash Test Dummies will be showcasing their Oooh LaLa! when they kick off their first Canadian tour since 2004 in Victoria, BC on October 1st.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is pleased to present the Crash Test Dummies, Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Burton Cummings Theatre, Winnipeg.

The band has a special treat for Winnipeg, performing with members of the original line up (Brad Roberts, Dan Roberts, Ellen Reid and Mitch Dorge) as well as long-time collaborators Murray Pulver and Stuart Cameron. Oooh LaLa! , released on May 11, 2010, is their first record in six years.

The album features 11 tracks using ‘70s-era analog musical toys and was co-written and produced Stewart Lerman (Antony & the Johnsons, The Roches).

The Crash Test Dummies first rose to prominence while based in their hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1991 with their Juno Award-winning debut album, The Ghosts that Haunt Me, featuring their first hit single “Superman’s Song.”

Their 1993 breakout record God Shuffled His Feet has sold over five and a half million copies worldwide and the single “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” peaked at #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. Oooh La La is the band’s ninth record, following 2004’s Songs of the Unforgiven.

Mr. Tom Petty - A house hold name. At some point in our lives, we've all heard it and It would seem there is at least one Tom Petty song that we all rock out to.

On Saturday June 19, 2010 Tom Petty rolled into the MTS Centre, to preform a total of 18 songs that the Winnipeg crowd danced, sang and some points cried to.

Tom Petty has always been someone that I have looked up to having been raised on his music since childhood, so you can imagine how excited I was when I found out that The Aimless & Andy Show was approved to photograph and review his music.

And seeing him live on Saturday was certainly something I never thought I would experience in my lifetime.

"You don't know how it feels, to be me" - Tom Petty during his opening set.

A powerful sentence in the eyes of a musician, and Tom Petty delivered it to a crowd of 10,000 screaming fans who may never truly understand what it feels like to be standing in front, looking back at them.

"I Won't Back Down"

Tom assured us .

As did the rest of The Heartbreakers who support the 59 year old Floridian turned Californian.

It would appear that after 34 years in the music industry this sentence is worth it's spoken word.

This is especially true with the release of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers twelfth studio album entitled "Mojo" which hit record stores on June 15th, 2010.

Mojo is a completely modernized Tom Petty album consisting of 15 new tracks that have been in the works for what seems like 8 years. . . about the time Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers released their last album "The last DJ" in 2002.

(ED: We featured the title single "Last Dj" on a recent episode of Wake Up Winnipeg).

After listening to tracks from "Mojo" live at the MTS centre, I could understand why Tom Petty kept his fans waiting for 8 years. . . he and The Heartbreakers produced perfection.

And though the tour's primary purpose is to promote "Mojo", Tom Petty did a great job of balancing and featured tracks both new and classic.

In fact, The Heartbreakers and Mr. Petty chose only 4 great songs to represent Mojo while at the MTS Centre and primarily focused on the tracks that turned Tom Petty into a legend.

Mr. Petty and his Heartbreakers have done a great job of preserving the sound and songs that made them famous, and also did an amazing job of developing a new and refreshing sound for their band.

Overall, I was personally impressed with Tom's show and would like to thank him and the rest of The Heartbreakers for coming back to Winnipeg a second time in almost 2 years time.

Two big thumbs-up also goes out to Mr. Joe Cocker who brought tears to fans eyes during his 75 minute performance, along with his 6 helpful 'friends' on backing instruments and two supportive female vocalists.

I can certainly say that Mr. Cockers performance was a nice compliment to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and I was most happy to see him live.
